News in brief: Essex County announces youth art contest
The Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Team (ADAPT) Youth Leaders, of Essex County, announced the start of their “Instead of Drinking and Using Drugs, I would Rather…” Art Contest, which runs through May 17. ADAPT invites students in grades 6 - 12 throughout Essex County to submit their creative artwork promoting a drug- and alcohol-free lifestyle.
Local youth leaders will judge the contest and select three winners from grades 6-8 and three winners from grades 9-12. The prizes for grades 6-8 winners include a display on local transportation and a $50 gift card (grand prize), a $50 gift card (second place), and art supplies and a $25 gift card (third place). The prizes for grades 9-12 winners include a $200 gift card (grand prize), a $150 gift card second place), and a $100 gift card (third place). In addition, local businesses have agreed to promote the winners by displaying the posters in a visible location.
The poster contest fits perfectly with ADAPT’s countywide initiative to minimize underage drinking, prescription medication misuse/abuse, and youth use of tobacco and vape products.
