Final arguments in the murder case against Kenneth Duckett wrapped up yesterday and the jury began its work yesterday afternoon. A verdict is expected before the Christmas break.

Duckett, 39, is accused of murdering Monica Paul at the Montclair YMCA on June 26, 2008, while she watched their son Noah taking swim lessons.

The defense argued that Duckett was only carrying a gun to protect himself from gang activities and never intended to shoot Paul, snapping only when she said Noah wasn’t his son. More on closing arguments in the Star Ledger.
