Montclair Local Nonprofit News is an independent local news organization founded in 2017 with the mission to “spark dialogue, objectively inform and build community in Montclair.”
The mission of the Montclair Local is to strengthen our hometown through independent, in-depth, factual reporting on the issues and events that affect you: your tax dollars, your schools, your elected officials, the institutions and businesses that serve you, and the restaurants and cultural events that enrich your life. We cover the people who make Montclair the engaged and vibrant community we call home.
Our journalists are at public meetings, store openings, and the local sports games. They are out talking to people, looking for the stories that matter. They are passionate about telling the stories of Montclair and living up to the highest standards of journalism.
Since 2021, the Local has been a nonprofit organization supported by the community. In the spring of 2023, the Local’s board of trustees announced it would merge with Baristanet, a digital news outlet covering the Montclair area since 2004. Uniting two strong local organizations offers readers a richer menu of stories and services. The combined organization remains a nonprofit.
