Montclair is going to get a little taste of what the Montclair International Film Festival might be like on Monday June 6, when the festival hosts an advance screening of “Page One: Inside the New York Times,” with a talk back by two Montclair media stars, the New York Times’s David Carr, who is the subject of the documentary, and Jonathan Alter, author, reporter, columnist and television analyst.

It doesn’t open to general audiences until June 17, when it comes to screens in New York, and June 24, when it will arrive at the Clairidge and other theaters across the country.

Immediately after the screening, Alter will moderate an audience question and answer session with Carr, to discuss the film, his position at the New York Times and the future of journalism.

Andrew Rossi’s film — which had its World Premiere at the Sundance Film Festival — follows the tradition of great fly-on-the-wall documentaries, and deftly gains unprecedented access to the New York Times newsroom and the inner workings of the Media Desk.

“We are thrilled we could bring this important film to town and celebrate one of Montclair’s own,” stated Evie Colbert, Member of the MIFF Board and Co-Chair of the Festival’s Events Committee. “MIFF is committed to building affordable, fun, thoughtful events that showcase the cinema and amazing talent we have in Montclair. This is the kind of event that symbolizes our focus and we hope to be doing many more in the years to come.”
