Last night was a beautiful night for a tree lighting. The weather was perfect — not too cold, but chilly enough to get in the holiday mood. The skies were clear and the mood was festive. The crowds, although less crowded than years past,  sang along Christmas carols with the Montclair Community Band and Meg Beattie Patrick. Mayor Fried, Councilor Nick Lewis and Councilor Renee Baskerville were festive too, singing, dancing and smiling for the crowds. After the countdown a Firetruck drove Santa down Church Street, where he entered The Hinck Building for photos.

Chanda hall, our amazing photographer, captured the feeling perfectly. Check out her slideshow and when you’re done, check our Michael Stahl’s photos on his Best Friend Photography Facebook page. There’s one of my daughter that is probably the most adorable photo in the collection — if I do say so myself.

Montclair’s Christmas festivities continue today, Saturday, December 3, with Santa making his rounds.

Santa will visit the Business Districts on a Montclair Fire Department fire truck:

  • 11 am – South End Business District (Orange Rd. & Cedar Ave.)
  • 11:30 am – Walnut Street Lot
  • 12 pm – Watchung Plaza
  • 12:30 pm – St. James Church (Bllevue Ave. & Valley Road)

The Montclair Community Band will play at each location, and Santa will have candy and gifts for all the kiddies!
