Here in Montclair we have many wonderful small businesses. Why, after all, would you go to Toys R Us when you have in town Aunt Jean’s Toys and Treats, Learning Express, and Just Kidding Around?

If you prefer to stay away from the big stores–especially during the busiest shopping time of the year–and support local businesses, then shop locally at Small Business Saturday tomorrow.

A nationwide event, Small Business Saturday was founded by American Express in 2010 to help small businesses get more exposure during one of the biggest shopping weekends of the year. Last year, over 100 million people came out to shop at independently-owned small businesses on the day.

Customers who shop in participating stores will receive a $25 statement credit. You can find participating Montclair merchants on the home page of the link above.

Shopping in one of Montclair’s many commercial districts–even if you’re shopping at a chain like the Gap or Talbot’s–supports our local businesses and our community.
