Peak Performances is proud to be a home away from home for the world’s most expressive and original dance companies—Via Katlehong Dance.

This weekend’s performance and after-show Katlehong Dance Party is a perfect family event.

South Africa’s Via Katlehong Dance likes to mix things up. Originally formed through an outreach program for youth during the Apartheid era, Via Katlehong’s high-energy style is an energetic brew of Pantsula (street dance) and Gumboot (rhythmic physical percussion). Through constantly searching for new performance horizons, they have become a major player on the international stage. For their triumphant return to Peak Performances, this inventive American premiere is a cabaret like none you’ve every seen before. By combining the group’s powerhouse style with dynamite vocal performances of traditional folk music, a fresh and inventive look at modern South Africa is born.

Now, the boys from Katlehong have collaborated with South African vocalists and comedians to create Katlehong Cabaret, a feel-good and family-friendly evening of dance and music that showcases the group’s powerhouse style through the sights and sounds of modern South Africa.

See Katlehong Cabaret on Saturday, March 23 at 8 pm and then enjoy the bonus Dance party:

After the Saturday night performance of Katlehong Cabaret at the Kasser Theater at 8 pm, stick around for a FREE lobby dance party with the cast. This was such a huge hit during the company’s last visit in 2009, we’re doing it again!
