tiny 2The Tiny Elephant Cafe, a bookstore cafe connected to Watchung Booksellers, operated by sisters Alison Meade and Dana Bachan, opened Friday night with a big, enthusiastic crowd. The grand opening also kicked off the bookstore’s Friday Summer Music Series — “Live Music Makes Us Happy” — with a performance from Poor Paddy.

According to bookstore owner Margot Sage-EL, the desire to create the ever-popular bookstore-cafe experience was a longtime dream that suddenly became a reality when two sisters “with amazing taste and phenomenal cooking chops” became involved.

The cafe is accessible from the bookstore through an archway in the front of the store and beautiful cookbooks, gifts, nature and gardening books and travel books are on display for perusing in the cafe room, creating a more open space overall.
