Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. (left) was sworn into his fourth term as Essex County Executive on Thursday, January 1.

Administering the oath of office to the Executive are (at right) U.S. Senators Cory Booker and Robert Menendez. Holding the Bible is DiVincenzo’s son, Joseph. Also speaking during the afternoon ceremony were U.S. Representative Donald M. Payne, Jr., NJ Senate President Stephen Sweeney and NJ Assembly Speaker Vincenzo Prieto. DiVincenzo is the longest serving Executive since the position was created in 1978. No other Executive has served more than two terms.

“We have a track record over the last 12 years because of our administration, the Board of Freeholders, our Constitutional Officers, 3,500 county employees and 22 municipalities all working together. People can talk about our parks and Turtle Back Zoo, but the most important things have been keeping our workforce employed and getting our financial house in order,” DiVincenzo said. “What we did the last 12 years is now history. The next four years will be the most important, and we will continue to work with the Freeholders to keep Essex County moving forward,” he added.
