Brendan TevlinThe Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of the Oranges announced this week that Brendan P. Tevlin will be honored as the 2015 Young Irishman of the Year (posthumously) at its 114th Anniversary Dinner taking place on Thursday, March 12 at Mayfair Farms.

Brendan Tevlin was murdered in June 2014. Tevlin was born and raised in Livingston and actively involved in the community. He had just completed his freshman year at University of Richmond where he was a member of the Lacrosse Club. Brendan was a talented bagpiper for the Essex County Shillelagh Pipes & Drums. He was a 2013 graduate of Seton Hall Prep where he was a member of the National Honor Society, Lacrosse Team, Ambassador’s Club, Knights of Setonia, President of the Gaelic Club, on the Student Council, Math Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and he was the recipient of the Monsignor Tuohy Award for having achieved a GPA of over 4.0 for all four years at Seton Hall. He was also a Eucharistic Minister at Seton Hall Prep. Brendan enjoyed summers with family and friends in Lavallette where he was an avid surfer.

“The Tevlin family has long been affiliated with the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick,” said Owen V. McNany, president of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of the Oranges. “Following in the footsteps of his father and uncles, Brendan was a member of the Essex County Shillelagh Pipes & Drums, the piper group that leads our honorees into the event. We feel that selecting him as the Young Irishman of the Year is a fitting tribute to an exceptional young man and there isn’t a doubt in our minds that Brendan would have been one of honorees based on who he was and the impact he had on so many.”

The guest speaker of the event will be Michael Critchley, Sr., Esq., founder of Critchley, Kinum & Vazquez, located in Roseland. The evening will commence with a 6:30 pm cocktail hour, followed by dinner and the event program beginning promptly at 7:30 pm. Tickets to this gentlemen only, black tie preferred event are $100 each. A portion of the proceeds from the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of the Oranges’ 114th Anniversary Dinner will be donated to Project Children, which brings together Catholic and Protestant children from Northern Ireland on visits to the U.S., and part to the Irish Way Program of the Irish American Cultural Institute, which awards scholarships to Irish American high school students for summer study in Ireland.
