School of Rock Montclair Expands “Rookies” Program for Young RockersSchool of Rock Montclair will offer two new music education programs exclusively for homeschooled students, ages seven through 17.  Both programs will be held between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the School’s 125 Valley Road location in Montclair.

“We’ve had requests from parents for variations of our unique Performance-Based Music Education programs that would fit in with their children’s weekday homeschool schedules,” says Kevin March, Creative Director of School of Rock Montclair.  “In response to these requests, we’ve come up with two programs that deliver the same fun, energy, and fist pumping awesomeness as our signature programs, and they’ll give homeschooled students an opportunity to develop their musical skills, social and interpersonal skills, and confidence in the same way that our regular versions do.”

Both of School of Rock Montclair’s “Homeschoolers Who Rock” programs will meet for 90 minutes each week.  The programs will be comprised of five or more students and will include:

ROCK 101:  A group class/jam session for seven to 11 year-old beginners.

  • Instruments: drums, guitar, bass guitar, keyboards and vocals.
  • Using popular pop and classic rock songs, students will learn how to count notes, become comfortable and proficient with their instruments, use dynamics, sing into a microphone, communicate with their fellow musicians, and play together as a band.

PERFORMANCE PROGRAM:  A group class for eight to 18 year-old musicians with intermediate experience who are ready to perform live on stage.

  • Instruments: drums, guitar, bass guitar, keyboards and vocals.
  • Supervised by a music director, students will learn how to play their instruments and work together as a team.
  • School of Rock Montclair will create a themed tribute show for participating students, which – after several months of rehearsal – will be performed live by the students in a local rock club/venue.
