Baristanet Guide to Gifting Local

Continuing on with more local items on locals’ holiday wish lists!

We hope these gift ideas inspire you!

The way to Trae Bodge‘s heart is through her stomach. She wants something very sweet this year.  “For my birthday last year, my husband created the number of years in donuts from Montclair Bread Company and it was the best way ever to ring in a new year. Maybe a holiday reprise in the shape of a Christmas tree?”

Johanna Howard has made her list and hopes that Santa checks it twice!:

  • A Medium Oval Necklace from my friend and  jewelry designer Andrea Panico’s collection. Andrea is a Montclair resident and has her studio here in town. Her line of architectural jewelry is  really gorgeous, Dot Reeder on Watchung Avenue carries an assortment of Andrea’s line. The entire line is also available online.
  • Which brings me to my next “wish”— anything from Dot Reeder! It is  my favorite clothing store in town! Owner Laura Barker has a keen eye and  brings a little bit of NYC cool girl style to NJ.
  • A gift card for Watchung Booksellers — I’m a huge bookworm! Giftcards are great because you can save them  for a rainy and gray day when you need a perk.
  • Scented candles from r-nichols.com (goes well with the books) Designer and founder Nick of r-nichols,  a stationary and candle line is a Montclair resident. My favorite scent is Grow which smells of fresh tomato plants and sunshine.
  • A gift certificate for a chalk paint workshop at Verdigreen — I’m pretty handy with paints but would love to learn how to use chalk paints and waxes to create interesting and modern finishes.

“I think that’s it, the list is getting kind of long already!”

Kristin Wald says she is all about consumable gifts that won’t add to her clutter.

“I have two things I’m putting on my list this year. The Chai from Yogic Chai is amazing from the mobile cart, but sometimes I want it at home. I would love to try the Yogic Chai Concentrate this winter, so finding this under the tree would be great! I also injured my foot this summer which has meant a slow-down in my exercise routine. A gift certificate to Power Stretch Studios Kika Method would make sure I’m warmed up and ready to get back into a much needed active lifestyle!”

Aimee Danchise, owner of Basemeant WRX, has a list as well:

 Dream+Catcher2

  • First stop at Sunshine Sam to check my nieces and nephews off the list. Marlene always knows the best gift for different age groups and all her toys are DIY, battery free and unique.
  • I would finish up my Kid’s Holiday shopping at Apple Village with a Dreamcatcher for my best friends new baby.
  • Then pop in Olive That & More and grab their Squid Ink Pasta for our Christmas Morning Carbonara
