College Application Camp

Who: Rising high school seniors intent on completing their college applications (including the essay) prior to the start of their senior year

What: A four-day, non-residential intensive designed to help students complete the Common Application, develop and write the personal essay, build an academic/extracurricular resumé, and practice their interviewing skills.

When: Five sessions available—Session 1/June 27-30; Session 2/July 25-28; Session 3/August 1-4; Minicamp 1/September 17, 18; Minicamp 2/October 1, 2 and Session 2/August 10 to 14, 2015. Space is limited.

Destination Science Day Camp
Where: Several locations in Bergen County, NJ
Who: Kids between kindergarten and sixth grade.
What: At Destination Science, kids can design and build robo-chameleons, make scabs and pus, grow a life-size model of their brains, and create soccer cyborgs using CSI. Kids also will find out how sound waves and electricity become music as they build their own portable digital music system. The summer camp is committed to creating a spirit of teamwork, as kids are rewarded for helping their peers throughout the day, learning the power of community, collaboration and character development.

International Ivy Summer Program

Montclair State University’s Academically Gifted & Talented Summer Programs

What:  At CAMP STYLE you’ll learn a variety of sewing of skills — there’s no previous sewing experience is necessary. We provide all the sewing machines, tools and supplies you’ll need to sew and design your own unique creations. Weekly themes include stuffed animals, clothes & accessories or cool things for your room. Most projects can be completed in one or two days, so you’ll have lots of wonderful handmade creations and the skills needed to make more on your own.

Digital Photography For Teens

Who: Kids ages 13 – 18.
What: A unique, creative workshop while learning the art and technique of digital photography, taught by Montclair artist and Rowan University Photography Professor, Keith Adams. This Summer workshop series explores a range of approaches to photography that will strengthen your teenager’s picture making skills. Options include: beginning sessions for new photographers, advanced sessions for more experienced teens, and specialized sessions for those looking for something different. In all workshops, there will be instruction on how to use the camera, informal critiques of student photos, and discussions of the history of photography and how it relates to today. There will also be an option for evening workshops for the fun and excitement of night-time photography. A digital camera is required, preferably a DSLR.

Express Yourself Studios Summer Art Camp
Where: 1877 Springfield Avenue, Maplewood, NJ.
Who: Artists ages 5 – 12.
What: Offers children the opportunity to experiment with a variety of media in a fun and supportive environment. Children will be encouraged to use their imagination freely. Participants will create 10-15 art projects per week. The projects are inspired by different Master Artists. Children will learn about the Artists through discussions, examples, and art-making. Projects include painting, drawing, mixed media collage, sculpture, printmaking and paper mache (relative to the artists). An exhibition and reception featuring students’ artwork will be held at the conclusion of each workshop week.

The Handywork Studio Camps

Who: Kids ages 5 – 12
What: The Handwork Studio is a kids’ needle arts and fashion camp. Its purpose is to pass down the tradition of teaching practical arts such as knitting, crocheting, hand and machine sewing, embroidery, quilting, fashion and crafts in a fun and relaxed environment. Montclair Art Museum Digital Media Camp

Who: Kids ages 8 – 12.
What: This camp exposes students to working collaboratively while using new technology as a tool for creative expression and communication in our increasingly connected and digital world. Camp is open to all levels and no prior knowledge of software is required; however, basic comfort using a computer is recommended. Students will be provided with a USB drive to take home their projects.

Montclair Art Museum Pottery Camp
Where: 3 South Mountain Avenue, Montclair, NJ 07042
Who: Kids ages 6 – 12.
What: The Yard School of Art is excited to offer four two-week sessions of Pottery Camp in our Ceramics Studio. This camp is for children and teenagers who are interested specifically in working with clay to create pottery, sculpture, and more. Campers are grouped in age-specific classes (6 – 8, and 9 – 12) Campers will have the opportunity to use the Museum’s diverse collection of Native American pottery as inspiration. Much of the work created in Pottery Camp will be kiln fired; some will be functional, some will be decorative, and all of it will be treasured for years to come. Much of this artwork will be displayed at the receptions in Leir Hall at the end of each session.

Montclair Art Museum — SummerART
Where:

Who: Kids ages 5 to teens.
What: The theme-based SUMMERART Camp provides four two-week sessions during which children will work in mediums such as drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, collage, and printmaking. Visits to the Museum’s galleries are included to enrich the child’s knowledge of fine arts. In addition to making art every day, children are encouraged to interact, talk, and learn about the history of art, its role in society, and how it affects our daily lives. Children are grouped in age-specific classes (5 – 7, 8 and 9, and 10 – 12).  Media based classes are offered for teens including Sculpture, Digital Photography, and more. Classes are limited to 12 – 15 children and projects are never repeated.

Rutgers Design Camp – Level I & II
Where: All camp activities are held on the Douglass Campus of Rutgers University.  Nicholas Music Center and Marryott Music Building are where majority of camp activities are held.
Who: Ages 14-18
What: Design Camp seeks to develop skills in graphic design for motivated high school artists. Created and supervised by Mason Gross faculty, the curriculum focuses on core principles of design while also introducing relevant software. The course includes focused studio work, technical demonstrations, group critiques and a field trip to New York City. Students will become familiar with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign while exploring creative visual problems and producing work suitable for a college admissions portfolio. The emphasis is on building visual awareness and on making the software serve the designer’s creative vision. Design Camp also features a Portfolio Workshop addressing how to present work effectively for college admissions. Design Camp uses traditional classroom space as well as top-notch computer lab facilities in the Department of Visual Arts at the Mason Gross School of the Arts on the New Brunswick Campus of Rutgers University.

The camp will provide young women the opportunity to experience jazz training in supportive environment. Students will receive instruction in improvisation, musicianship, jazz theory and more. Student will stay on campus at Montclair State and will have a culminating performance at the end of camp

The ASTA/NJ Chamber Music Institute
Where: All camp activities are held on the Douglass Campus of Rutgers University.  Nicholas Music Center and Marryott Music Building are where majority of camp activities are held.
Who: Ages 12–23
What: Now in its 10th year, the American String Teacher’s Association of New Jersey (ASTA/NJ) Chamber Music Institute provides participants with the opportunity to perform in small chamber ensembles under the guidance of renowned faculty. Students participate in daily rehearsals, master classes, elective courses, special presentations, and a variety of social activities. Each session features a concert and master class with a professional, visiting artist ensemble and concludes with a performance featuring student ensembles. Students may audition to be placed in specially formed advanced ensembles; preformed ensembles are welcome.

Jazz House Summer Workshop
Where: Montclair State University, John J. Cali School of Music
Who: Ages 8-18, All levels
What: Students receive mentoring and top-notch instruction from Jazz House teaching artists and special guests to develop key skills and enhance knowledge in fundamentals of music and the art of performance, for both instrumental and vocal.  Highlights include masterclasses, small groups and big band ensembles, private lessons, history and culture, composition and film scoring.  Students perform at NY’s Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola at Lincoln Center, top NJ jazz clubs and Montclair Jazz Festival for 8,000+ jazz fans.  Artistic chair: Christian McBride; director: Ted Chubb.

Where:  All camp activities are held on the Douglass Campus of Rutgers University.  Nicholas Music Center and Marryott Music Building are where majority of camp activities are held.
Who: Ages 13-18
What: This dynamic week-long workshop features music of the great jazz masters taught by the world-class faculty of the Jazz Department at the Mason Gross School of the Arts. Students will learn and perform the music of Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Horace Silver, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and many more in a comprehensive workshop environment on the New Brunswick campus of Rutgers University. The 2014 Rutgers Summer Jazz Institute is ideal for young musicians, ages 13-18, interested in improving their jazz improvisation, small group, and large ensemble skills. Students will work intensively in daily rehearsals with the internationally renowned, award-winning jazz faculty of Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts.

What: Summer Sparks enrichment programs are all completely hands on as well as highly interactive. Program examples are science, writing, social skills, building, drama, music, travel and so much more. All classes taught by professional educators with experience in specific subject areas. It’s your child’s choice of morning or afternoon sessions or sign up for a full day (2 sessions). Enrichment activities expand the minds of campers and keep them educationally engaged in a fun way during the summer months. All activities take place on site.

YMCA of Montclair–Summer Quest Leadership Camp

Who: Ages 14–15 (limited spaces per session)
What: Summer Quest gives adolescents a great foundation in preparation for the working world in a fun, creative and skill oriented way.  Everything they will need to know to get them started on a career path will be explored.  Writing resumes, dressing for the part, communication skills and leadership development will be part of the program.  Teens can earn first aid certifications, learn how to interview and be a part of fun and engaging internships at our YMCA branches and our various summer camp locations. There will be a field trip on the 2nd Friday of each session. The first two weeks are spent in workshops and group activities. The second two weeks they’ll put their new skills and self-confidence to the test in a two week volunteer position at one of our summer camps or at the YMCA. Two Directors facilitate this program and mentor the teens throughout this four-week program.
When: June 29 – July 22 (4-week session), July 11 – August 5 (4-week session), July 25 – August 19 (4-week session); Hours: 9:00 am–4:00 pm (pm times may vary).

Apple Camp
Where: Local Apple stores (Willowbrook Mall, Short Hills Mall and Garden State Mall)
Who: Kids ages 8 -12.
What: Learn the ins and outs of iMovie and how to make a film in about the time it takes to watch one. From storyboarding to shooting footage to editing, kids will create their own film from start to finish. The workshop, held at the Apple Retail Store, spans three days and leads up to an Apple Camp Film Festival where campers debut their masterpieces.

Bloomfield Recreation Station Summer Camp
Where: Demarest School, Bloomfield, NJ
Who:  Kids in grades k – 7
What: Full day camp . Each session will feature one off site field trip, special events at camp, and so much more.
When: Families can choose from three sessions (two weeks each) starting in June. Monday through Friday from 9 am-4 pm, with early drop off option at 8 am.

Children’s Summer Program at The Adult School

Microspark Youth Spark Computer Camps

Seaton Hackney Stables Summer Equestrian Camp

Who: Ages 5 – 17
What: Campers learn basic safety, grooming, tacking and barn management skills. They ride 2-3 times daily, either in lessons, on trail rides, lungeing session and Equisthenics. In addition, campers receive daily Badges in many different topics including harness driving, equine breeds, colors and markings, equine health and First Aid, braiding and Show grooming, careers in the industry (demonstrations by vet and farrier) and other exciting horsemanship matters.

Steve and Kate’s Camp
Where: NEW 2016! Hoboken & Millburn, NJ Returning location: Montclair, NJ
Who: Grades Pre-K through 7th / Mentorship Program available (8th+ grade)
What: Steve & Kate’s Camps conforms to kids, not the other way around. Instead of a rigid structure, they give campers choice. There are a gazillion ways for kids to design a day at camp. One camper might dive into bread-making and animation while another flies down a water slide and scores a goal in our inflatable soccer stadium. It’s up to them. You can buy any number of Day Passes, use them whenever you want, and get an automatic refund for unused Passes. If you need the whole summer, they’ve got a membership too. You don’t even need to tell them when you’re coming. Everything is included–lunch, all hours,  and materials. Need more camp? Harbor Haven Day Camp
Where: 1418 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange, NJ.
Who: Children ages 3 – 15 with mild special needs.
What: 8-acre private school setting provides an opportunity to experience typical summer activities such as sports, swim, nature, outdoor adventure, drama, dance, music, cooking, bikes, photography, computers, art, gymnastics yoga and more in an environment where success and positive self-esteem are fostered. In addition, social skills group, daily academics and speech and occupational therapy groups are provided within the schedule.

What: What: Youth Basketball All Stars Camp (YBA) continues to be the perfect place for your basketball enthusiasts. YBA is an intense program for basketball players of varying abilities. Each day is spent improving fundamentals, performing interactive drills, building offensive and defensive skills, playing in house tournaments and getting in shape. Lydia Johnson Dance Camp
Where: The Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts, 10 Durand Road, Maplewood, NJ
Who: Kids in grades 2 – 11.
What: Under the direction of choreographer Lydia Johnson, LJD company members and teaching artists will lead small groups through a varied day of creative dance including Dance Technique, Choreography, and Survey of Contemporary Dance, with guest artists teaching jazz and hip hop. The day includes a Choreography Workshop in which the campers create their own dances to show friends and families. An extended day is now offered in partnership with Geralyn’s Art Studio so campers can dance in the morning and create visual art work in the afternoons for a full day of the arts. (Scholarships and one and two-week sessions are available.) The program includes Pizza Fridays, dance games, snack on the patio, and special events.

New Jersey Jackals NIKE Baseball Camp

New York NFL Alumni HeroesYouth Football Camps

Who: The Comprehensive Skills Camp is for newcomers ages 6-14.  The Accelerated Skills Camp is for experienced players ages 9-14.
What:Football fit for kids! Camps provide safe, non-contact instruction for kids ages 6-14 years old.  Kids learn to run, throw, catch, defend and compete the NFL Alumni Heroes way.   Each camp focuses on developing athletic skills, football skills and life skills while the kids have a blast playing the great game of football. Within the skill development goals, teaching USA Football’s Heads Up Football curriculum a top priority for the tackle-bound players.  In a safe, non-contact format, Heads Up teaches the proper techniques for blocking and tackling so they play better, safer football. With support from New York Giants Alumni Heroes like Stephen Baker, Scott Brunner, Chris Calloway, Rod Hampton and Curtis McGriff, New York NFL Alumni Heroes Youth Football Camps will visit Montclair’s Sports Domain Academy for a week of football instruction and fun.

Petite Equestrian Program
Where: 
Maplewood Memorial Park.
Who: Ages 3 – 7
What: Participants will learn safety on and around the ponies, grooming techniques, basic riding skills, and other primary horsemanship skills. While this is not a Horseback Riding lesson per say, the program includes an exciting riding component whereas each child will get to ride about 20 minutes and learn how to properly mount, dismount, hold the reins and control the horse/pony at the walk and a few steps of trot. Sessions aim to help develop confidence and motor – coordination skills while providing a supportive, fun, non-threatening environment for the participants as well as social interaction between them. This is a participatory program for parents who so desire so one may be asked to occasionally lend a hand. Parents/guardians must stay on location during the program. The perfect preparation for private or semi-private lessons for eager young aspiring equestrians! Course materials are provided.

Pony Grooming Riding Program

What: This unique program provides an exciting and inexpensive hands-on introduction to the wonderful world of equines in a fun-filled, non-threatening atmosphere. PonyShare uses camp-trained ponies and cobs, smaller and easier to handle than their larger equine counterparts. Small groups of 4-5 children are formed according to age and prior experience – if any. After reviewing safety rules, materials previously covered and learning new subject matter, participants are assigned their size-related pony or cob and each small group works under the tutelage of a qualified and motivated Counselor. Some of the horsemanship matters covered include: Safety on and around the horses, Basic Anatomy, Equine Senses & Body Language, Grooming, The Tack and Harness, Driving the Miniature Horse, English & Western styles, Barn Management and Careers in the Industry. Participants also get to shortly ride or drive their charges for about 20 minutes during each session. This program enhances team work, self-esteem and camaraderie while helping develop a genuine appreciation and respect for the animals. Course materials are provided.

What: Mason Gross School of the Arts Summer Dance Camps are open to new and experienced dancers ages 11 to 18 who wish to expand their knowledge and experience of dance in a collegiate environment. Dancers develop skills through daily ballet and modern technique classes. A variety of other styles are explored in a series of special workshops and master classes with world class teaching artists. Dancers work in intimate repertory groups with professional choreographers and create their own choreography, which is performed in two fully produced, end-of-session showcases. Morristown-Beard Day Camp
Where: 70 Whippany Road,Morristown, NJ
Who: Kids ages 6 – 13.
What: Astate-licensed facility, located on a beautiful 22-acre campus, is designed to help children develop skills in sports, arts and crafts, drama, swimming and science. Our counselors work to promote good sportsmanship and self-confidence. Our daily schedule is comprised of structured periods, with a flexible schedule on special events days. Also offer a number of specialty camps. These camps run for different sessions throughout the summer.

New Horizons Day Camp
Where: Campus of the Blessed Pope John Academy, 8 St. Cloud Place, West Orange, NJ
Who: Kids ages 5 – 14.
What: New Horizons Day Camp was established in 2012 by Seth Blender and Chris Purdue formerly of Camp Horizons. New Horizons offers children a camp experience that is safe, fun, innovative and close to home. We provide an all day camping experience with flexible scheduling that fits the needs of today’s family. Campers choose their own schedules from a menu of exciting activities, including sports & swim, arts & crafts, technology, performing arts, and academics, all delivered with a focus on our 8 core values.

Travel and Adventure Camps

YMCA of Montclair–Voyagers Teen Travel Camp

Who:  Ages 12–14
What: Voyagers is the camp where youth go on thrilling excursions, make an impact in their local community and each week get to choose their camp activities such as drama, art, sports, cooking and so much more.   Day trip opportunities are Wednesday-Friday and may include, but are not limited to, Laser Tag, Six Flags Amusement Park, rock climbing, Mountain Creek, race car driving, the beach, Bronx Zoo, bowling and movies. Trained staff maintains a high level of safety, fun and mentoring for all participants
When: June 27–August 19: 8 one-week sessions. Hours 9:00 am–4:00 pm Monday through Wednesday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm (earlier/later depending on trip).
Cost: $375 per session.

Keiki Explorers Club
Where: Nishuane Park, Montclair
Who: Children ages 8 – 11.
What: Kids take the adventure on the road to various hiking and swimming spots in the NY/NJ Metropolitan area and beyond. They’ve gone as far as Old Rag Mountain, VA and as close as Mills Reservation in Cedar Grove.
When: 9:00am-5:30pmMondayFriday, for the 6 weeks of June 27-August 5 (no camp on July 4th).

Surf and Turf Adventures Camp 
Where: Two locations: Pickup in Montclair or Summit
Who: Children ages 10 – 15.
What: Pick up at Edgemont Park in Montclair. Then they take the adventure on the road to various hiking and swimming spots in the NY/NJ Metropolitan area and beyond. They’ve gone as far as Old Rag Mountain, VA and as close as Mills Reservation in Cedar Grove. Check out the Schedule for this years itinerary.

YMCA Camps 

YMCA of Montclair – Explorers Camp

Who: Ages 8–12
What: Explorers Camp offers a combination of fun filled activities and trips to local attractions. Campers participate in a daily schedule of games, recreational swim and activities based around weekly themes.
When: June 20 – September 2 (10 one week sessions). Hours: 8:30 am –3:30 pm.
Cost: $265 per session. Before Camp Hours: 7:30 am –8:30 am (additional fee of $30 per session). After Camp Hours: 3:30 pm–6:30 pm (additional fee of $90 per session).

South Mountain YMCA Counselor-In-Training (CIT) Program
Where: 
At the Y Knots or SOMAPY Day Camps
Who: For teens entering 9th & 10th grades
What: Designed to give campers the training and experiences they need to develop in order to become tomorrow’s leaders.
When: Two 3-week sessions. Before and aftercare is NOT available.
Cost: Please check website for dates and rates. Single week registrations are available only for those who have successfully completed a prior full session.

South Mountain YMCA Golf Camp
Where: 
Depending on weather, the camp will play at various local driving ranges and golf courses. The camp day starts and ends at the Y.
Who: Kids entering grades k – 8
What: Golf Camp is tailored for ALL SKILL LEVELS; from those who have never played before to the more experienced player
looking to advance their game.
When: 2 mini one-week sessions. Before and aftercare available for an additional fee.

South Mountain YMCA Pre-Teen and Teen Adventure Camp
Where: Maplecrest Park, Maplewood & South Orange Community Pool, Maplewood, NJ.
Who: Grades 5 – 6 and Grades 6 -9
What: Day camp designed to strengthen decision-making skills, encourage social responsibility, and team work through challenging and fun character-building experiences.  The pre-teen and teenage years are an important time in a child’s life as they learn to make decisions on their own and come to understand some of the impact of their own actions. The Pre-Teen and TEEN Adventure Camps follow an extensive travel schedule with trips each week to places such as: Dorney Park, Mountain Creek, Camel Beach, Laser Tag, Dave and Busters, NY City, bowling, roller skating, museums and local beaches and lakes. Teen Campers  attend three overnights held , including a camp-out at our beautiful “sister” branch, Fairview Lake YMCA camp grounds.
When: Nine one-week sessions, weekdays from 9 am – 3:30 pm. Occasionally extended as late as 6 pm due to travel schedules. Before and aftercare available for an additional fee.
