Yogi Berra Museum & Learning CenterThe Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center has announced that Montclair resident Eve Schaenen has been appointed the Museum’s new Executive Director.

A specialist in non-profit management and communications, Schaenen brings to the Museum over fifteen years of experience helping mission-based organizations develop and implement strategies that are solidly based in their values and goals. Most recently, as lead consultant for Rabinowitz Partners LLC, she worked with such institutions as the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, the Boys & Girls Club of Newark, and Edible Schoolyards NYC, offering customized consultancy that ranged in scope from big-picture strategic planning to systems for daily operations.

“We’re extremely excited for Eve to lead us in this next phase of the Museum’s story,” says Mark Markowitz, President of the YBMLC’s Board of Trustees. “We’re more committed than ever to sustaining Yogi’s legacy, but also to addressing relevant topics and concerns of today for a new generation of learners and leaders. Eve’s experience, creativity and passion for our mission will allow us to engage a whole new audience in our work.”

“I believe sports is a perfect lens for looking at so many aspects of our culture,” says Schaenen, a native New Yorker who spent years watching her own children on playing fields. “The Museum will always be a home for baseball fans – Yankee fans especially – with extraordinary memorabilia and expert guest speakers from that world. We’re also interested in using sports as a vehicle to connect with the greater community, whether that’s by introducing emerging digital technologies in our exhibits, or further developing our character education programs for young visitors, or hosting fun screenings and events for the Montclair State students. With a beautiful exhibit space that includes a 64-seat theater and a baseball stadium immediately adjacent to the facility, the possibilities feel endless.”

A former New York Times writer, Schaenen has lived in Montclair with her family for seventeen years. She served the Montclair Public Library since 2004 as Chair of the MPL’s Foundation Board and trustee of the institution. She received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University and was a Fulbright Fellow in Berlin, Germany.
