Former Montclair resident Carrie Babcock, co-owner of the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Cedar Grove, until recently of Upper Montclair, was recently honored with a 20-Year Award by the Fred Astaire Franchised Dance Studios.

Babcock, a five-time U.S. Champion, was hired in 1997 to work as a ballroom dance teacher. She helped move the studio to the Upper Montclair location in 1999 and moved up the ranks to become studio manager, dance director, and eventually co-owner. The studio relocated to Cedar Grove in September 2016.

Last year, Babcock was appointed to the Fred Astaire National Dance Board, enabling her to coach and judge regional and national events.

To celebrate receiving the award, Babcock is offering a free introductory program to new students through May 24.

The studio will be holding its annual White Party on Friday, May 19, from 7:30-10:30 p.m. The event includes a pro-am and professional show, hors d’oeuvres and general dancing. For information, call 973-783-8999.
