The Montclair Public Library’s popular art and photography series continues with an exhibit of paintings by Montclair resident Fernando Mariscal during the month of June through June 29 at the exhibition space in the Main Library, 50 South Fullerton Avenue, Montclair, NJ 07042. Mr. Mariscal’s exhibit is entitled “Abstracts in Motion”. A reception for the exhibit will be held at the Library exhibition space on Thursday, June 15, 2017, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.

Mariscal is a member of Studio Montclair and has exhibited frequently at Studio Montclair’s Academy Square gallery. Examples of his work can be found at www.fernandomariscalartwork.com.

An image of his painting “High School 2014” was featured on the cover of Montclair Townscape 2015-2016. Mariscal began his artistic career in his native Peru. He was commissioned by the Royal Inca Hotel to do a mosaic mural of Machu Picchu. He has received art awards from the Newark Public Library for his exhibits celebrating the independence of Peru and also from the Peruvian Consulate. He is the building manager of Bellaire House in Montclair and his works are on display in the basement of the building.

In an interview with artist, art critic and curator Joyce Korotkin in 2013, Mr, Mariscal said “I paint the echoes of my subconscious; some are places, some are forms that I welcome into this reality”. Ms. Korotkin wrote “Mariscal represents this psychic duality with hauntingly distant grounds populated by heavily textured layers of geometric planes and shapes in evocative colors that are infused with luminous light, inviting the viewer to meander through an invented space in quiet contemplation.”
