The weekend is here! We’ve rounded up some fun and family-friendly things to do. Check ‘em out!

Start the weekend off with a Free Friday Flick at Kip’s Castle Park (22 Crestmont Road, Verona). View a screening of A Dog’s Purpose on the lawn and under the stars. Before the movie, Orphaned Pets, Inc. and PAWS of Montclair, will be onsite. Donations of dry pet food and pet store gift cards are appreciated. Gates open at 7:00 PM and the movie begins at dusk. Concessions will be available for sale. Admission is free. Rain date is Saturday, June 10th.

Play giant games on Church Street (closed for traffic) during the Summer Sidewalk Sale in Montclair Center. Hiant classic board games will be on Church Street for everyone to play from 12 noon – 4 pm. Test your Scrabble skills, your checker jumps, chess strategies and Jenga balances outside. Live music, shopping and more!

Glen Ridge Public Library (240 Ridgewood Avenue, Glen Ridge) will host a Father’s Day Craft on Saturday from 10:00AM to 4:00 PM. Drop in to make a craft perfect for Dad or anyone special in your life!

The Historical Society of Bloomfield will hold its 2nd Annual Ice Cream Social on Saturday from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Historical Society Museum (90 Broad Street, Bloomfield, 3rd Floor of Children’s Library). There will be free ice cream for all adults and children who visit the museum. This event is open to the public and free of charge.

City Green (171 Grove Street, Clifton) will host its 2nd Annual Strawberry Festival on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This fun-filled day at the City Green Farm Eco-Center will have craft vendors, delicious food and snacks, live music, arts and crafts, and fun for the entire family.

Montclair Public Library will host Rolie Polie Guacamole: Kids’ Music Show on Saturday from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the Main Library (50 South Fullerton Avenue, Montclair). This high-energy interactive show is a mix of funk, rock and folk music mashed into original tunes about natural living, eating healthy, and staying active. The songs feature positive messages to get the whole family moving. No registration is required. This event is recommended for children ages 3 and up.

The annual Butterfly Bonanza will be held at Pyramid Mountain (472a Boonton Avenue, Boonton) on Saturday from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Discover New Jersey’s fabulous butterflies and other pollinators, and learn how they contribute to the natural world. There will be games, crafts, live music, activities, bug safaris and more! Cost is $4 per adult, $3 per child age 3 & up, and free for children 2 and under.

In honor of National Flag Day, Montclair History Center will host a Family Fun Day at Crane House & Historic YWCA (110 Orange Road, Montclair) on Sunday from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Tours incorporate real flags from different periods of history starting from 1796 through 1945. Children will learn what states became part of our nation in different periods, flag etiquette, and make their own windmill flag to take home. Cost is $10/family. Those with family memberships to the Montclair History Center can attend free.

Historic Speedwell (333 Speedwell Avenue, Morristown) will host a Civil War Weekend this Saturday and Sunday. You can be a part of the action as the war is brought to life. Reenactors from the 2nd NJ Brigade will demonstrate musket, artillery, and bayonet drills, cannon firings, skirmishes and much more. Cost is $7 per adult, $6 per senior, $5 per child age 4-16, and free for children under age 4. The event will run from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturday and 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Sunday.

Also on Sunday, stop by Montclair Art Museum for Drop-In Studio between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM. The new Helen & Bill Geyer Art Studio will be stocked with a range of art materials to explore with a seasoned MAM studio instructor. This is free for members and included in Museum admission for non-members.
