Simit House and Bakery, 2 Church St., is a café specializing in a Turkish circular bread, which is known as a simit. The café also offers a full menu of Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine, including a Turkish omelette (menemen), salads and appetizers, panini, red lentil soup, and such desserts as baklava, kadayif, apple dream, dark chocolate cake and an assortment of cookies.

A great dessert for Valentine’s Day is a rich, chocolate cake. This raises the appeal of staying in for Valentine’s Day dinner. The chef responsible for this chocolate cake assures me that it will convert anyone who does not like chocolate!

Ingredients:
1 ¼ cup all-purpose flour
¾ cup of sugar
1 cup of milk
½ cup of corn oil
2 organic eggs
¼ cup of Belgian chocolate powder

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a bowl, stir together all the ingredients.
Transfer the mixture to a
circular cake pan.
Bake for 30 minutes.
Let cool for 10 minutes, then enjoy!
