A drunk Montclair man allegedly entered Caggiano’s Liquors on Glenridge Avenue last week demanding free liquor and then locking employees inside the store, according to police.

Jamal Liggins, 38, was arrested following the incident, which occurred at 9:29 p.m. on July 3.

Police Lt. David O’Dowd said that an intoxicated Liggins threatened employees and demanded they hand over liquor.  After verbally threatening them and physically assaulting one employee by chest bumping him, Liggins locked the staff inside the store. No one was injured. Police arrived at the store just as the incident was escalating, said O’Dowd.

Liggins was charged with defiant trespass, criminal restraint, simple assault and terroristic threats stemming from the incident.
