A detention hearing for Montclair lawyer James has been moved to Friday, Nov. 16. Ray is charged with the shooting and killing of his live-in girlfriend Angela Bledsoe.

Ray was to have appeared before Superior Court Judge Nancy Sivilli on Tuesday, Nov. 13. However, the hearing was moved to Friday, due to the defense asking for more time on the discovery period.

His attorney, William Ewing, appeared on his behalf. Assistant Prosecutor Timothy Shaughnessy appeared on behalf of the prosecutor’s office.

Ray had fled the United States after the shooting on Oct. 22, traveling to Cuba by way of Mexico, but he was stopped and detained at customs before he could officially enter Cuba on Oct. 28. He was brought back to the United States on Nov. 6.

According to affidavit records, Ray confessed to the shooting in a letter found by his brother. His brother called the police after discovering the letter.
