Police Explorers Program offers multiple programs for different ages to for Montclair youth who are interested in learning about law enforcement the opportunity to participate in bi-weekly sessions with police officers. Officers from various units will instruct on the many different jobs within the police department.
In a release, they state, “Participants will have fun learning in a safe environment similar to an actual police recruit training program, and complete physical training exercises with an emphasis on teamwork and responsibility. Our Explorers Program is open to our high school youth (Grades 9-12). Explorers will occasionally assist/participate in community events and work alongside Local, State, and Federal Law Enforcement.”
For grades 5-8, Montclair Police Department offers the Junior Police Academy (JPA). They write, “Here you’ll be able to get a better understanding of what it means to be a Montclair Police Officer, build character, and most of all build a strong relationship with your community law enforcement officers. Our safe and friendly environment ensures you’ll enjoy meeting officers, receiving instruction, training, and experiencing everything that goes along with becoming a police officer.”

Montclair’s Police Department Youth Advisory Council encourages those to join their peer led group of teenagers, to give a voice to the youth of the community. This group will meet regularly with Chief Conforti and his command staff to discuss issues regarding youth/police relations. Their mission is to ensure that the concerns/issues of the youth are known/acknowledged. This group consists of young men and women ranging from grades 8-12.
