The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the area. A Flash flood watch is in effect from 4 p.m. this afternoon, Oct. 16, through late tonight.

“A strong frontal system will approach today, with a rapidly intensifying coastal low tracking just southeast of the area tonight. This will result in moderate to heavy rainfall late this afternoon and night,” according to the warning issed by Montclair Township.

Much of the area will see two to three inches of rainfall with the potential for localized bands of higher amounts. The heaviest rain will exit the area by midnight.

Those living along small river and streams across Montclair could experience flash flooding. Urban and poor drainage flooding is possible as well.

A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. Residents should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued, the warning advised.

Due to the Flash Flood Watch issued for our area, trash and recycling collection will be canceled tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 17.

The township asking that residents in Section 1 Refuse/Trash collection and Recycling Area A not to place trash or recycling out for collection.
