I read with great interest your article of March 4 regarding St. Peter Claver Church and its first administrator, the Rev. Charles McTague I had the great fortune in the late 1950s to have him as a teacher. He taught “The Life of Christ,” an evening class I attended at Seton Hall Urban Division in Newark.
He was a fine teacher, but a better example of Christ. He introduced us to poor children he brought to class, and encouraged us to bring food, clothing and books to donate to them and their families. He was a humble man, a saint in my eyes.
I have never forgotten him or his example. I was thrilled to see him mentioned in the article.
