Aging in Montclair has a Widows and Widowers Connection group, to provide an open and positive atmosphere to those who have lost spouses and help them navigate their “new normal.”

“Whether you lost your partner one year ago or 10, problems arise as you continue your life as a single person,” AIM wrote in an announcement of the group. “In this confidential setting, you will meet new friends who understand your loss and can share experiences and resources for continuing support.”

The original Widows and Widowers Connection group has been meeting for three years. Members have shared a wide range of topics, including navigating as a single in a “couples” world, whether to stay in the home once shared with a spouse, and resources for moving for those who decide to relocate.

During the social isolation of the past year, the group increased the frequency of its meetings to provide ongoing support and connection for members.
