The Montclair Foundation and Van Vleck House & Gardens will hold its second annual Scarecrow Exhibit in the Gardens from Oct. 7 to 24.

“From traditionally designed scarecrows, to dark-and-scary tributes to Halloween, from repurposed and upcycled creatures, to sewn-and-stuffed homages, to characters inspired by history, mythology, film or literature, the only limit is your imagination,” Van Vleck House & Gardens said in a press release about the event.

Families, individuals, Scout troops, schools, nonprofits, businesses and organizations are invited to enter a weather-resistant and sturdy scarecrow. Scarecrows must be homemade and family-friendly.

The event is free and sponsored by PSE&G, PNC Bank and Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center. Registration must be completed by Friday, Sept. 39.

Scarecrows must be dropped off on Oct. 4 and Oct. 5 between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Scarecrows will be on display around the Van Vleck House & Gardens Oct. 7 to 24.

Winners in each category will win $500 to donate to the nonprofit of their choice. The community will be able to vote for their favorites in real time online, voting for their favorite in each category.

The winner’s will be announced Oct. 20 and will be presented with their checks to the nonprofit of their choice on Oct. 23. Visit the Van Vleck House & Gardens website for more information and to register your handcrafted scarecrow.
