A fire initially located in the basement of an Elizabeth Road house, made its way into the walls and then spread to the home’s first and second floors. Montclair Fire Department received a call Tuesday at 3:56 p.m. reporting the fire; a resident self-evacuated prior to their arrival.

Montclair Fire Dept. units stretched multiple hose lines and quickly extinguished the fire. There was heavy fire, smoke and water damage to the basement, first and second floors. A unit from Clifton helped bring the fire under control; units from East Orange, West Orange and Bloomfield covered the township for the duration of the incident. There was one firefighter injury (treated and released by a local hospital); there were no reported civilian injuries. The last unit cleared the scene at 6:28pm. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
