The Montclair Foundation has awarded $63,000 in grants to 15 nonprofits, including Montclair Local Nonprofit News, as part of its fall 2021 grant cycle.
Grants were awarded to support programs in human services, arts, youth education and senior services.
“We are proud to play our part in the community. Knowing how much need exists in our area, decision-making continues to be difficult,” Peggy Murphy Deehan, grants chair and Montclair Foundation trustee, said in an announcement from the group
“We are dedicated to supporting worthy causes and know there will be additional opportunities in the future, starting with our next grant cycle in the Spring.”
Grants were awarded to the following organizations:
- Aging in Montclair: For the office and technology support to expand support groups for senior citizens
- Bike and Walk Montclair: For the Girls in Gear program, which trains girls ages 6-12 in bike education, confidence and safety, and subsidizes bikes and helmets for participants.
- Immaculate Conception High School: For scholarship support
- KinderSmile Foundation: For access to dental care and education for underserved children
- Main Street Counseling: To support the hiring of a bilingual therapist to provide counseling for the underserved
- Montclair Art Museum: For ArtLink, a program for second-graders in Montclair that explores specific themes in the museum and connects with classroom activities to foster creativity, critical thinking and expression
- Montclair Local Nonprofit News: For the “Our Montclair” podcast and video series focusing on art, activism, culture and connections in Montclair
- Montclair Public Library Foundation: For the expansion of outdoor Wi-Fi to include the installation of permanent, welcoming seating at both library branches’ plazas.
- Montclair Shared Housing Association: For patio restoration for seniors
- Oasis – A Haven for Women and Children: For a GED program to educate impoverished women and help them become economically self-sufficient
- Partners for Women and Justice: For legal services for low-income victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault
- Passaic County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates): For the Safe Babies program to provide family support for ages 0 to 3 years
- Side Door: For an after-school school program that provides a safe, positive and supervised environment for middle schoolers
- We’ve Got Friends: For a special needs teen-led programs that enables social interactions through projects, games and common interests
- YMCA of Montclair: To support a fund for non-reimbursable expenses from extensive Ida damage.
The deadline for spring grant opportunities is Tuesday, March 1. A grant portal will open to applicants on Tuesday, Feb. 1.
