Northern New Jersey’s congressional districts, as of 2013. The New Jersey Congressional Redistricting Commission is holding hearings and considering how districts will next be realigned. (DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR)

I’d like to thank Mark Lurinsky for his recent Town Square opinion essay, which makes a strong case for placing all of Montclair into a single congressional district.

Montclair is a unique town with unique needs, which would be best served by having a congressional representative who is in a position to advocate for our collective community needs. While clearly the borders of several northern New Jersey districts need to change due to population shifts, I’m hoping that this necessary change provides an opportunity
to rectify the division of our community into two separate districts (the 10th and 11th) and unite us into a single district.
