Police are looking for help in identifying the occupants of a vehicle who threw a kitten out of the car’s window while driving down Glenridge Avenue Friday afternoon.
The incident occurred around noon on June 24 near the intersection of Glenridge Avenue and Cloverhill Place, Montclair Animal Control Supervisor Michele Shiber said.
“A driver witnessed the kitten being dropped out of the window as the vehicle continued driving away,” Shiber said. The driver was driving toward Grove Street, she said.
Shiber would not comment on the kitten’s condition, stating that the incident is under investigation, but calling it “an act of animal cruelty.”
“But I do urge anyone who knows something or may have seen something to please come forward,” she said.
Witnesses at the scene described the vehicle as a brown or bronze Nissan Rogue with New Jersey license plates.
Police and Shiber are asking residents and business owners in the area of Glenridge Avenue, Grove Street and Cloverhill Place with external cameras to check their camera feeds for sightings of a vehicle matching the description and report it immediately to Det. All responses will be kept confidential, Shiber said.
Friday’s incident is the second this week in which Montclair Animal Control and Montclair Police were called out on reports of animal cruelty.
On Tuesday, June 21, residents of The Fairway reported a fox stuck in an illegal animal trap. The fox had to be euthanized due to its injuries, officials said. Due to the use of an illegal trap, the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife was called in on Tuesday’s incident.
