Shivoyne Trim will serve as the Montclair school district’s next director of pupil services.

Trim will begin in August, succeeding David Goldblatt, who has served as interim director of the department for two years. The department oversees special education, mental health and nursing services.

Trim serves as a supervisor of pupil services at Montclair High School, a position she has held since 2017, according to a press release from the school district. A native of Guyana who immigrated with her family to Brooklyn as a child, she has a bachelor’s and master’s in education from Seton Hall University and a doctoral degree in psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University, the release says. She is a certified psychologist.

“I’m very excited for this opportunity to lead Montclair Public Schools’ Pupil Services Department, which has made great strides in recent years meeting the needs of our students,” she said in the release. “My goal is to build on our progress in ensuring equal educational access for all students.”

Trim’s appointment was approved by the Board of Education at its April 19 meeting.

She has worked as a special education intervention specialist for the state Department of Education and as a school psychologist in Paterson for 10 years, the release says. She has also worked as a counselor at Passaic High School and as a domestic violence and sexual assault counselor at the Passaic County Women’s Center.

In a statement in the district’s release, the Montclair Special Education Parent Advisory Council said it was excited to learn of the appointment. “SEPAC extends its sincerest congratulations,” the release said.
