Where do you live?

Montclair, NJ

When did you move there?

2015

Where did you grow up?

Born and raised in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, México. It was an adjustment transitioning from desert weather of 110°F and then moving to extremely cold winters in Colorado and then here in New Jersey.

How do you make a living? OR What is your everyday passion?

I am an Electronics Engineer and former Calculus teacher. I became a SAHM, and thanks to the pandemic, I discovered joy in baking. I now have an online bakery called Lignal Cake Pops. I make cake pops for any occasion, and we also have our standard pops ready for pick-up the following day. I am always creating new designs and flavors. Visit the Lignal Cake Pops Instagram for upcoming events and the latest news. I love connecting with people and making their day sweeter, one cake pop at a time.

Coffee, tea, or …?

Coffee. It’s a must every morning—after a big glass of water.

What’s your idea of a perfect weekend day?

Spending the day with my husband and our two babies, having a nice picnic at the park, with snacks and relaxing.

What’s your favorite local restaurant?

We love going to Montclair House Grill. The owner, Chris, makes us feel at home every time we go there to have dinner. We also love Le French Dad, authentic French bakery. Their bread is the best. I am always telling Arben, the owner, their cheese bread is my favorite.

What’s on your nightstand?

Night lamp and Echo Show, nothing else. Boring, I know.

What are you listening to?

If you have little ones, you know Baby Shark is always playing. When I make cake pops, I turn on worship music, since it is my quiet time with God. I get to create and enjoy every step of the process of making cake pops. So, when you receive them, you now know your pops are blessed, and hopefully they’ll also bring you some joy to your day. When I am not baking, I love playing Taylor Swift, K-pop and J-pop music.

What are your current indulgences?

I am a cookie person, for life. And I also make really good cake pops. I love having them with coffee, and giving them to friends and family. The thing I love about our cake pops, compared to other ones in the market, is that they have no added sugars, so you don’t have to worry about giving your kids that sugar rush. Since they are bite-sized, you can try all the flavors. And they come in the cutest designs.

What talent would you most like to have?

Speak more languages!

What’s the worst-kept (or best-kept!) secret about your town?

I don’t know if it’s really a secret, but I love the coffee from La Fontaine Cafe, a hidden gem on Willow Street. Plus, the owner, Pinar, is the sweetest.

What do you hope they say about you at your funeral?

I want my family to celebrate my life, like the funeral in the movie “P.S. I love you.” My friends and family would share personal anecdotes, my husband can tell you funny stories. Above all, I want to be remembered as a loving wife, mom, daughter, and sister.
