Wednesday is May 1 and the official start of “May in Montclair,” a month-long celebration of the beauty of our community!

The annual tradition began 45 years ago. It’s all thanks to a committee of volunteers who work hard to plant thousands of tulip bulbs in the fall that bloom in May. This year, they distributed (and helped plant) 20,000 tulip and daffodil bulbs all over town.

Head over to Watchung Plaza Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. for the Opening Ceremony. The celebration will feature performances by Montclair Public School groups “The Northeast School BlueHawks Band” and “The Watchung School Vocal Ambassadors.”  Margot Sage-El of Watchung Booksellers is the M.C. for the ceremony.

Montclair Local has created a special May in Montclair event page—sponsored by The Montclair Foundation/Van Vleck House & Gardens—to highlight some of the great events this month.

Check it out and join your neighbors to celebrate spring!
