Come along and listen to the lullaby of Broadway! Be ready to sway in your seat as Montclair High School students in the School of Visual and Performing Arts (SVPA) present the spring musical, “42nd Street,” beginning May 3. Set at the height of the Great Depression, aspiring chorus girl Peggy Sawyer comes to the big city from Allentown, Pa., and soon lands her first big job in the ensemble of a glitzy new Broadway show. But just before opening night, the leading lady breaks her ankle.

Will Peggy be able to step in and become a star? The score is packed with
Broadway standards, including “You’re Getting To Be A Habit With Me,” “Dames,”
“We’re In the Money,” “Lullaby of Broadway,” “Shuffle Off to Buffalo” and “Forty-Second
    Street.”

MHS’s School of Visual and Performing Arts

The Spring Musical is a Montclair High School tradition and capstone of the season, allowing SVPA students to develop and spotlight their acting, dancing and singing skills. This year’s performance features more than 100 students, including on-stage performers and a full tech crew.

The Montclair High School SVPA focuses on co-curricular activities that highlight students’ skills and talents. Staged events during the course of the year include a fall showcase, winter play and spring musical theater production. In addition to the performing component, the program also provides an outlet for students who want to support the theater as part of the technical crew, including stage design, sound, lighting and more.
