Glen Ridge Police Department is investigating a burglary to a residence on Linden Avenue.   The individuals entered the residence around 3 a.m. through an unsecured window. They stole a key fob inside the home for a vehicle parked in the driveway and proceeded to steal the resident’s vehicle.  According to Glen Ridge Police, this type of burglary and motor vehicle theft has been an ongoing trend throughout the state.  Thieves have primarily targeted luxury vehicles, primarily BMW SUVs.

The Borough has experienced two similar burglaries since January.  In all instances, the suspects made entry to the residence between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. and stole the keys to the vehicles.  Through investigation, police determined that the individuals have been driving to the scene in unidentified vehicles.

While there is no known connection between these incidents, Glen Ridge Police identified individuals in the previous burglaries and the Glen Ridge Detective Bureau continues to investigate.

Residents should report any suspicious vehicles or persons to assist with investigations and prevent further thefts. The police department urge residents to secure their vehicles and homes and report suspicious activity to the police department.  Key fobs should not be left in plain view inside the home or inside of a vehicle.   If in doubt, contact the police department for an officer to be sent to check the area.
