Climate Change Prayer Vigil: Healing our Earth
April 24 @ 7:00 pm–8:30 pm
What have we done to this beautiful planet that God has gifted us with? We’ve made is sick!
Those of faith are particularly called to love all people and God’s created world.
Climate change disproportionately affects the poor and vulnerable, those already most at risk today. To those who are faithful, caring about and acting on climate change is a way to live out our calling to love others as we’ve been loved ourselves by God because what we are doing to the earth is striking hardest against the very people we’re told to care for and love. Climate change is increasing risks of resource scarcity which in turn intensifies hunger and poverty. All this can worsen political instability, and even create or worsen refugee crises.
Then there’s pollution, biodiversity loss, habitat destruction, species extinction: climate change makes all those worse, too. In fact, if we truly believe we’ve been given responsibility for every living thing on this planet (including each other) as it says in Genesis 1, then it isn’t only a matter of caring about climate change: We should be at the front of the line assuring we do not contribute further to this and should be demanding action.
If you are concerned about this as well, join those from many faith traditions (and no faith tradition) at Brookdale Reformed Church on Wednesday April 24th at 7:00pm as we speak of and pray for the healing of God’s created world.
