2020 began like any other, with joy and fresh resolutions. By mid-March the reality of a global pandemic hit Montclair. Residents struggled to adjust as they searched for a new normal, finding new ways to teach and communicate. “Zoom” entered our vocabulary.
June pushed the nation and Montclairians into protest and introspection, examining systems and racial biases. Along with the nation, residents took to the streets in the wake of the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery.
Changes followed into the fall with remote schooling and a historic mail-in presidential election.
Through it all, Montclair found ways to come together through food drives, mask collections for first responders, little free pantries, creative holiday events, and more. As residents say goodbye to a tumultuous year, they look forward with hope to what 2021 will bring.
