Congratulations to chef Mike Ventura at The Kitchen Table. Ventura got the “Ariane treatment” by News 12 covering the good deals during Nutley’s restaurant week. Like many restaurateurs we’ve talked to in Montclair, Ventura says prix-fixed menus are a great draw to get dollar-deprived diners at his table, and he’ll be keeping these menus around until the Dow gets back up to 10,000. We’re also hearing there may be a summer version of restaurant week coming this August…

  1. I remember a couple of weeks after 9/11 we were walking by several restaurants on the upper East Side, and the managers/owners were coming out onto the sidewalk and almost begging us to come in and dine. These were, of course, the same people that wouldn’t even answer their phone in the months up to 9/10. We thanked them, and continued on to one of our favorite places that — although somewhat hard to get into (very small) — always tried hard and treated us well. I am a firm believer in chef-owned-and-run places: as long as they have been good to us when times are good, we will still be there for them when times are bad.

  2. I hope Montclair really does Restaurant week again in the summer. I went to two participating restaurants during Montclair’s Restaurant Week (Fawa and Palazzo) and enjoyed them both.
