On Sunday night, shortly after we reported the tragic shooting of Dan Pritchard in Verona, we got word of another shooting – in Montclair. We reported it as an “unconfirmed shooting at a Chinese restaurant in Montclair” and noted that helicopters were searching for suspects.
Montclair Police today released a few details on the shooting.

On 02-22-09 at approximately 9:28 p.m. the Montclair Police received a 9-1-1 call reporting gun shots fired in the area of 148 Bloomfield Ave. Upon arrival of police, they found a male subject on the sidewalk in front of 150 Bloomfield Ave bleeding from a gun shot wound to his abdomen area and left thigh. The victim, who is a 24 y.o.a. Montclair resident was transported to University Hospital in Newark and underwent surgery. The victim is listed in stable condition. On scene investigation led to the arrest of three men. With the assistance from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department K-9, a 9mm handgun was recovered a distance away in the courtyard area of 50 Pine Street. The names of the individuals arrested are not being released at this time. The investigation is ongoing and further information will be made available at a later time. “The on scene investigation by Montclair Police Officers and the assistance provided by the Essex County K-9 was outstanding.”

  1. Hey, I hear there’s a HOMECorp house for sale just around the corner from here. What’s that? You don’t want to live in this shitty crime-ridden part of town? What’s wrong with you, are you racist or something?

  2. 9:30 is pretty much the time one would be leaving one of the Bloomfield Ave. restaurants after dinner. This was a little further down, but still close enough to make me think twice about where I eat, park, etc.

  3. One thing you learn living in Essex County is to always watch your back.
I learned that lesson when I was seven years old getting ‘jacked’ in EO.

  4. It would be irresponsible for Barista to not report this mike
I’d like to know why more information wasn’t made available about this sooner. Unless the suspects were just picked up there was no reason I can see not to tell us about the crime sooner and let us know sooner that the apparent suspects were apprehended and off the street.

  5. Perhaps lasermike was smoking the same crack these guys were when he posted his words of wisdom. This is a classic example of the service this site provides in filling in the gaps left by other local media. For whatever reason, the Montclair Times has a terrible relationship with MPD. The PD often refuses to provide the Times with any information about anything. IMO, disrespecting the Times, an important source of information in this area, is disrespecting the entire community. Thank you, Baristanet, for at least getting some information to the public. And let’s hope MPD is a little more forthcoming with information about violent crime in our town.

  6. From what I hear – the Wellmont hires & pays for their own police…we’re not paying a dime for them…the cops probably got to the scene faster because Wellmont had a show that Sunday.

  7. The reason they are not giving the names of those arrested is because it is gang related and they are also suspects in other armed robberies. They are not juvies. The shooting happened right in front of the Chinese Restaurant.
Good thing there was a show at the Welmont on Sunday night because the 2 cops on “ticket” duty were the ones who caught 2 of the “suspects”
Thank you MPD. Good police work. Wish there were more of you!

  8. Is there a increase in shootings or is Baristanet just talking about it more? Either way fear mongering can not be tolerated. There is a crowd here that feeds on fear to justify their hate.

  9. Oh, Comrade laserboy, stick it in your demented, “brave” little ear which is attached to that rattle which doubles as your head.
