newyearseve.jpgTimes Square, seeing The Nerds play at Jenkinson’s in Point Pleasant, party at a swanky martini bar in Hoboken….I have had some memorable and fun New Year’s Eve celebrations. That was all before kids. Now I’m embarrassed to admit I haven’t been awake at midnight on New Year’s day for the past six years.

For one, it’s really hard to score a babysitter. If she’s old enough to celebrate, she doesn’t wants to stay home and watch your kids. Secondly, my kids wake up at 6:30 a.m. (IF I’m lucky) every morning. The fun of spending a night out isn’t fun when you have to get up a few hours later to take care of two little kids. Finally, my oldest daughter was born on New Year’s day, which means that I spend that day baking a cake, taking her out, having family over for a party–too much to do.

So, my New Year’s Eve has been really lame since having kids. What about you?

  1. All three of us are going to a wedding in fabulous Las Vegas on NYE.
Then again, my son’s only 10 months old and could (and has) sleep through fireworks… So I guess we’ll see how next year plays out.

  2. I don’t have children but still have lame New Year’s Eve celebrations…i find the New Year’s holiday to be anticlimatic after the rest of the holiday season so I enjoy just relaxing on NYE and Day.

  3. Lame because yours doesn’t look like it’s “supposed” to look?
Or compared to those of the past?
This is right up there with kids who think that their prom is supposed to be the greatest night of their lives…
Perhaps, the joy of aging is that what was once fun– loud, drunkin’ fools on the beach (been there), isn’t anymore.
And yes, Kids change it. That can’t be news to anyone.
But I won’t trade that wonderful look on the little prof’s face when we tell him the morning after New Years, that it’s a NEW YEAR…
His smile tells me that anything is possible in a new year.
For us, being comfortable in doing whatever we like is a peaceful thought.
THAT SAID, the little prof wants to hit the New Years Eve Party/Sleepover at the YMCA.
So much for that morning smile……
