Without a doubt, my favorite place is Mardi Gras Fine Foods in Verona. It has been my little piece of heaven over the past 3 years. I decided to try it out after a friend had one of her parties catered by them and WOW — they did not disappoint.

Since then I have gone in almost weekly to get my fix of freshly prepared dishes as well as some frozen ones to keep for later. The quality of the food is incredible, especially with so many other places cutting corners and freshness. One of my absolute favorite daily items is the 3 Mustard Chicken Salad, it provides a great change to the daily lunch menu I typically stick to.

The pasta salads are also amazing, from basic Garden to Thai inspired flavors. Another favorite is the Savory Pepper Jelly Torta, I get one anytime I am expecting guest over for dinner as the perfect appetizer. With different meats, chicken, and hot pastas/lasagnas made daily, there are so many different combinations or cravings anyone can have. And I have yet to experience anything that I did not like!

Not only does the food keep you returning, but so do the staff and owner. They have become a part of my extended family. (Anyone who keeps me fed sits pretty high in my book).  The Mardi Gras staff is always there to provide a recommendation, ask for your feedback on new dishes or ideas and with smiles.

In this economy, supporting local businesses means so much more and I am proud to be able to do just that, for an organization that deserves the praise.

  1. So you like it, how about a little more specific info so others can decide? Inspiration behind the menu, experience of the owners, hours, specialties to name a few. Also, the name makes me think Cajun, but you describe general/Italian. Can you help us understand what the specialty is?

  2. @Scottie, your questions can be answered by clicking the link right in the article. All that information is right there, I believe. I personally have always loved Mardi Gras fresh ravioli and sauces. There are meat varieties, vegetable varieties and combo varieties. The pasta is so fresh that you barely have to boil it for 3 minutes. The sauces taste like they were made from garden ingredients within the day of purchase. The frozen varieties of the pasta and sauces really don’t lose anything from having been frozen, it’s just that it takes longer to prepare, but it’s always good to have around the house in the freezer.
