James N. Earle, Principal

Maurice was a Montclair High School special needs student who attended Shepard Academy. He went to Nishuane and Northeast for elementary school. On his Facebook page, at the end of December, his fathers shared the news of his illness and on Saturday, January 15 the news of his passing.

I didn’t know Maurice personally, but I saw him many times since moving to Montclair nine years ago. Maurice lived on the corner of Union Street where Rocky the horse lives. When my daughter was first born, I would walk past there daily to show her the horse and Maurice would be there proudly showing Rocky off. His smile always brought a smile to my face. The story of why Maurice’s dads bought Rocky for him was written in this Montclair Times article back in 2003.

Barista Kids and Baristanet offer our deepest sympathies to Maurice’s family and friends.
