It was a dark, cold night when we first met Holly Korus. She had sent us an email message that we should give a shout out to I’ve Got a Notion, her favorite sewing shop in Montclair. Attached to that email were photos of her awesome handmade Halloween costumes. We knew immediately that we needed to capture this Holly and keep her for ourselves.

She was much wilder than we originally thought, (don’t be fooled by the cute photo of her as a child on Halloween), but with lots of cocktails we were able to tame the beast.

We decided to share her creations with Baristaville and we ran this introduction a year ago today.

Since that first post, Holly has given us, and hopefully you, so many fun ideas. Here are our favorite Halloween tips from Ask Holly. Stay tuned, there will be many more in the days ahead:

Happy anniversary Holly! Go ahead and have a cocktail, or two, to celebrate.

  1. Happy Anniversary, Holly. I hope you know how much happiness you bring to the hyperlocal community. You’re zany and adorable.

  2. If you love Holly, you’ve got to come to Booo-ristanet. She’s the zany genius planning the whole thing. Buy your tickets here.

  3. Happy Holliversary!

This first Ask Holly seems so, uh, tame by today’s standards. I can’t wait until Holly hits her full stride. Until then, I’ll be hiding under my desk.

  4. Awww…I love the love!

It is still fun to do this every single day. Writing for Bk has been a wonderful addition to our lives around here at Ask Holly HQ 🙂

Liz I hope that is coffee at this hour since you and I were out having drinks just last night!

  5. I love that on top of that shaggy green lite-brite infested carpet, is a yet *another* furry rug! Your place had the Avocado theme going (even the curtains) – mine had the Rust theme that was repeated in the kitchen wallpaper with the avocado/rust/other-colors-not-from-nature theme! 🙂

  6. She was tame at first roo. But little by little, her zany, crazy self came out and we liked her even more.

  7. Kay-
It was Kelly green and yellow. My mother hated rust, gold and avocado and she still harps about how much she hates those colors. Now I hate kelly green and yellow.

My mother made those curtains and they were so green…sooooo green. The sofa and chairs were this wood framed deals with black and yellow striped cushions. Later the giant Merimekko canvases invaded our home. Oh the horror.
