The  moderators of the 2012 general election presidential and vice presidential debates were announced today and, for the first time in 20 years, one will be a woman.

Candy Crowley, Chief Political Correspondent, CNN and Anchor, CNN’s State of the Union will moderate the second debate (town hall format)  on Tuesday, October 16 at Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY.

As a woman, I’m thrilled, but there are three young women who I bet are happier than I am—Emma Axelrod, Elena Tsemberis, Sammi Siegel. They are the three Montclair High school students who started a petition in early June on Change.org titled called “It’s Time for a Woman Moderator: Equality in the 2012 Presidential Debates!” Emma, Elena and Sammi delivered over 130,000 signatures to the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Republican National Committee (RNC) in D.C. at the end of July.
