Floral wraps by Fran Liscio Pelzman

Nama-fabulous:
When I wear my floral wrap by local artist Fran Peltzman-Liscio, strangers on the street stop me and fawn over my skirt. It’s designed to be versatile and worn as a traditional wrap, scarf, top or even a dress. Like silk, the wraps’ fabric is soft and thoroughly touchable; unlike silk it doesn’t crease or wrinkle and stretches four ways. Great for travel. My favorite “Lily with Lucky Man” features, nestled among the many different botanicals an image of a small bronze figure that will bring the wearer luck and inner-peace.
$155  from American Flora

  1. Best gifts were given to me by my dad –first in high school a pair of cranberry suede ice skates, and then upon graduation, my first real camera, which propelled me to a life – long love of photography.

  2. The best gift I received growing up was a 3 speed bicycle the year my dad was unemployed and my mother was on strike. I figured it was going to be a pretty lean Christmas that year, so I was pretty surprised to find the bike next to the tree. And my accessible world expanded almost instantly!

  3. A trip to London on Christmas Eve and Paris on Christmas day – I relieve it all the time 🙂

  4. oops, I made a mistake when I sent Holly info about the wraps. It should say “Lily with Lucky Man” not “Iris with Lucky Man.” Sorry about that, Holly. But thank you so much for posting about the wraps.
Now as far as best gift I ever received…up there in the top five would have to be the persimmon and mustard polka dot Tom Jones shirt that I fell in love with at the Jaguar SHop. The Jaguar Shop was this awesome mod men’s clothing shop that opened up on Main Street in Patchogue, LI, in 1967. A Tom Jones shirt had a low V neck that laced up with a leather lace, and a long pointy collar and sleeves that were kind of puffy and gathered into a long cuff with three buttons on each wrist. This one, as I said, was persimmon/brick color, with very large mustard color polka dots on it. It was meant for a tall man, and I was a 5 ft tall 13year old, but it was the best thing I ever saw, and I got it for my birthday. Wow. I still remember that morning. What a great day. I wore it too school with a suede miniskirt. It was too big on me but everyone thought it was really cool.

  5. best gift to date is a radio shaped like a convertible with a Barbie in sunglasses driving it – purchased by my kids at a garage sale for my birthday

  6. My husband will be smokin’ hot in one of those bow ties to wear with his vintage midnight blue shawl collar tuxedo jacket.

We try not to go overboard with gifts for Christmas, we usually buy something small, like a book or gloves or a nice bottle of wine for adults and the kids get a little cash.

I do remember the one Christmas I got a red cow girl outfit with white fringe and a full skirt with a little white leather holster with a toy guy and my cousin, Harold, got a matching boy’s version. Those pictures are a hoot to look at now.

  7. Love those bow ties!

The best gift I ever got was an ABBA album when I was about 12. It was the first time my parents showed an awareness of my musical tastes. So I said, “Thank you for the music!”

Just kidding about that last bit, but ABBA makes me feel hokey.

  8. My favorite gift was a dollhouse, complete with tons of furnishings given to me by my grandmother, who worked for Woolworth & Co. at the time. She always had plenty of the latest toys for my brothers and I 🙂

  9. The best present that I’ve received is a plane ticket to see my mother in Florida.. she moved there a couple of years ago and I miss her more every day.

  10. One of my best gifts as a youth was a rangefinder camera. Coming from a family of photographers, I had the photography bug and was thrilled to get the camera. (Alas, after a trip and fall with the camera in hand, it was not long for the world.)

  11. There’s an amazing selection of beautiful, fashion-forward gloves at My Blue Suede Shoes, 215 Glenridge Avenue in Montclair in addition to their usual selection of beautiful, high fashion footwear – all very affordable! If you’re puzzled for a gift selection, gloves are just about always welcome – and practical too!

For Christmas stocking stuffers and Hanukkah gifts, check out MBSS’s newly arrived watches, gloves, children’s “baby animal” slippers (utterly adorable) and more!
