Strut Your Mutt, Essex County’s annual Halloween costume contest and parade yesterday at Brookdale Park, was definitely a day for the dogs.
Dogs were decked out in costumes ranging from a lady bug to a fairy princess to a lobster in a pot. Awards and prizes were presented by Essex County Executive Joe DiVincenzo.
Oscar the Grouch won First Place Most Creative. First in the couples category were Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. Best in Show went to the Stingers, a hive of honey bees created by pet-parents Aimee Fisher of Glen Ridge and Toni Lawson and Joann Vespucci of Bloomfield.
I would pay real money to see a dog that was capable of donning a costume. Mine would probably just pick it up and shake it.
If I dressed my dog up in something frilly, with a hat and shoes and stuff, he would probably bite me. I would probably say “Good Dog!” Hooray Show your pets some respect for their dignity — they know stuff about you that you wouldn’t want getting out.
