Of all the “national” days and month, National Ice Cream Month is my favorite. You can thank President Reagan for the designation. In 1984 he signed a proclamation making National ice Cream Month AND Day official. And all month long in July, I partake without guilt.

Holsten’s (1063 Broad Street, Bloomfield, NJ) This 76 year old establishment is known for its delicious homemade ice cream and being in The Sopranos.

To those of us who were around town as late as the early ’70s, there will never be anything like Bond’s — though no one would sneer at ice cream from Applegate’s. Bond’s was a great hang.
