It’s only fitting that there’s a beautiful full moon out tonight, because today Buzz Aldrin came to visit Montclair, spending time at Mount Hebron School which will be renamed Buzz Aldrin Middle School sometime in 2016.
Katie Rubacky-Severance, a member of the Montclair Man on the Moon Committee, shares that Aldrin was very happy to visit the school that will soon bear his name and welcome the chance to interact with students so soon after the Board of Education vote.
Dr. Sack, Mt. Hebron Principal, coordinated a thorough tour so Aldrin could visit the engineering, math, architecture and robotics classrooms as well as the greenhouse. Prior to Aldrin’s arrival, students had watched a video of the Apollo 11 lunar landing. Aldrin engaged in some great conversations with the teachers about what they are doing in class.
Rubacky-Severance said Aldrin had a terrific rapport with the students who seemed to really enjoy meeting him, adding that the students got a kick out of Aldrin’s socks, featuring the planets of the solar system.
There was excitement for the public dedication, which is expected to be held in 2016. The town last honored Aldrin in June 2013, when he was presented with a key to Montclair and a plaque at Montclair High School.

I wonder if the Freemasons will lay a cornerstone at the public rededication ceremony. That would be cool to see.
