The Montclair Fire Department were on the scene and quickly contained two recent fires in town. Deputy Chief Robert Duncan shares the following reports:

map 2On Friday, March 18th at 6:15 pm the Montclair Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at 24 Church St. The units arrived on scene to find a heavy smoke condition coming from the rear of the building on the second floor. The rear deck of the building was burning and beginning to extend to other parts of the structure. MFD units extinguished the fire and overhauled the area. Fire damage was contained to the structure of the deck, the fascia of the building, and slight smoke damage in several offices on the second and third floors. The cause is under investigation. No injuries were reported. MFD units cleared the scene at 7:37pm.

map 1On 3/23 at 3:33 pm the Montclair Fire Department responded to a report of a fire on Edgecliff Rd. Upon arrival Montclair units were directed to the rear of the property where they found multiple areas of brush burning. A Cedar Grove brush fire truck was also dispatched to the scene. Together, both Montclair and Cedar Grove extinguished all areas of fire. There were no injuries or property damage reported. All units cleared the scene at 5:35pm. The cause of the fire was undetermined.

  1. I was walking in Mills this afternoon. I noticed a fairly large burnt out area along the cliff above Highland Ave just north of Edgecliff. I wonder if this was part of the same fire? Also guite a few cigarette butts along the cliff edge, very stupid! Put them in your pocket with the rest of your garbage!
