Nora Chipaumire

See the world premiere of Portrait of Myself as My Father by Nora Chipaumire presented by Peak Performances this weekend. Fierce, charismatic choreographer Nora Chipaumire has been described by dance critic Deborah Jowitt as “thrilling… a powerful woman with a strong message.” This blood-pumping world premiere event includes a live performance of the new work and the debut of Chipaumire’s short film, “Afro Promo #1: Kinglady.” Together, they explore the pressures facing African men, Chipaumire’s own relationship with her father, and the creation of a black African man-woman superhero.

Dead Dog’s Eye

Dead Dog’s Eye, along with special guests, are at it again, raising money for The 100th Monkey Foundation. They will perform all the songs from the classic Grateful Dead album Europe ’72, plus other selections from that historic tour, at Tierneys Tavern in Montclair on Friday night. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the evening will go to The 100th Monkey Foundation LLC, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to grassroots philanthropic support.

Colin Lynch

Organist Colin Lynch will perform At Christ Episcopal Church in Glen Ridge as a celebration of their new organ restoration on Saturday. Hailed as “an impeccable performer with compelling musicality and technical command,” (The American Organist Magazine) First Prize Winner of the Fort Wayne National Organ Playing Competition, Colin Lynch maintains a busy performance career that has taken him to prominent venues throughout the U.S., Europe, Canada, South Africa, Brazil, and Argentina.

Grace Presbyterian Church will host its annual Gospel Music Celebration on Sunday. Once again, Dr. Charsie Sawyer, conductor of the Gospel Choir and professor of music at Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Michigan, will lead the Grace Church Choir and local musicians in a service of Gospel-derived music. Experience the joy that comes from this musical genre that has exerted a profound influence on American popular culture.
