Operation BackpackOperation Backpack is a nationwide program run by Volunteers of America that provides school supplies and backpacks to kids in need. This year, Kimya Nilsen is once again leading the effort to collect supplies in the Montclair area, and is seeking donations from families that are able to help. Supply lists are divide by grade level and you can choose whichever you like.

Here is how it works:

1. Choose a packing list here: https://tinyurl.com/hytercf

2. Shop for a backpack and fill it with supplies on the list.

3. Drop your filled backpack with label from packing list inside at either branch of the Montclair YMCA (Park Street or Geyer) – collection bins are in the lower lobby.

4. No time to shop? Give money directly to Operation Backpack to purchase supplies on your behalf. Donate here: https://tinyurl.com/j3rvwy2

The backpacks will go to students in Volunteer of America shelters in Northern New Jersey. Last year, Nilsen received 30 filled backpacks in only 10 days. This year there is a four-week collection period and Nilsen says she’d like to at least double that donation. The deadline is August 5.
